There are many simple precautions you can take to avoid accidents or injury to your teeth. Always wear a mouthguard when participating in sports. Avoid chewing on ice, popcorn kernels and hard candy, which can crack a tooth. However, accidents do happen and knowing what to do when one occurs can mean the difference between saving or losing a tooth. New Prague Dental Center can help you in your dental emergencies and injuries. • Objects Caught Between Teeth • Swelling of Gum Tissues or Face
Clean the area gently with a wet cloth and apply cold compresses to reduce any swelling. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, go to a hospital emergency room immediately.
Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. If the tooth is sharp to your tongue, lips or cheek, place a small amount of wax on it. Avoid using the broken tooth until you can be seen by one of our dentists. It is possible that your broken tooth may be sensitive to temperature change, so avoid letting cold or hot food or drink near the tooth as much as possible.
Hold the tooth by the crown and very gently rinse off the root of the tooth in water. Do not scrub or remove any attached tissue. Call your dentist immediately. Insert the tooth into the socket and hold it in place until your dentist can secure the tooth in the right position. If you are unable to insert the tooth, place it in milk and see one of our dentists as quickly as possible.
Apply cold compresses to control any swelling. Call our office or go to a hospital emergency department immediately.
Try to gently remove the object with dental floss while avoid cutting the gums. Never use a sharp instrument to remove any object from between your teeth. If you can’t dislodge the object contact our dental office.
Rinse your mouth with water to clean the area. Gently use a tooth brush and floss to remove any food or debris lodged between teeth that could be causing the pain. Avoid using the tooth in case of greater sensitivity to chewing or temperature change. Never place aspirin or other painkiller against the gums near the aching tooth because it may cause a chemical burn of the gum or cheek tissue. Call and visit our office.
Rinse your mouth with water to gently clean the area. Contact New Prague Dental Center as soon as possible.
Rinse your mouth with water to gently clean the area. Avoid using the tooth or putting any pressure on it from chewing or clenching. Contact us and keep the area clean until your dental appointment.
Gently clean around a lost filling or lost crown as the tooth may now be sensitive to temperatures. Replace your crown, temporarily, using some tooth paste or denture adhesive to hold the crown in place. DO NOT try and repair a lost filling with glue! Contact our dental office to schedule an appointment and avoid using the loose crown until you visit one of our dentists. |
